PARTIAL & TOTAL JOINT REPLACEMENT SURGERY
NJ orthopedic surgeon Robert A. Kayal, MD is highly trained in the field of joint replacement surgery. Most orthopaedic surgeons perform approximately 20 joint replacements per year, while Dr. Kayal routinely performs over 200 annual joint replacements. The types of joint replacement procedures that Dr. Kayal regularly performs include:
Dr. Kayal is an area pioneer for partial knee and patellofemoral knee replacement technology, and has been performing these procedures for years. In fact, Dr. Kayal has completed more of these surgeries than any other orthopaedic surgeon in the region. In addition to introducing this technology to the local medical community, he also introduced the concept of “outpatient joint replacement surgery” to the local community. Dr. Kayal and his team continue to perform outpatient unicompartmental and patellofemoral knee replacements on a routine basis.
Dr. Kayal performs minimally invasive joint replacement surgery at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, Patient Care Associates, LLC in Englewood, NJ and Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ. These surgical procedures incorporate only a 3- to 4-inch incision, as opposed to the typical 8- to 12-inch incision often required for total knee replacement surgery. As a result, patients typically return home the same day as surgery, enduring no cutting of tendons or muscle. These patients also recover much faster, and experience less pain than those undergoing total knee replacement surgery.
